Punk rock started in the mid-1970's as an irritating, underground take-over against mainstream music charted by the number or sales. Bands alike Sex Pistols, Iggy Pop, and Rancid helped bring punk rock back in the mid-1990's. This time the blend of speedy, artless rock music with sweet-sounding pop melodies stayed on the MTV. These days, soi-disant pop punk is the main part in the sphere of mainstream pop music. These 10 albums are the best place to start from to get to know pop punk.

1. blink-182 - Enema of the State

In blink-182's never-ending endeavour to insult any grown ups in the neighbourhood, that album shed light upon a model dressed as an enema au pair on the booklet. The punk pop on the record is youthful and catchy including the monumental hit song “All the Small Things.”

2. The Donnas - Spend the Night

Girls can perform punk, too, and this album is an abounding evidence of that. The group modeled after the American rock band Ramones in NY with every performer taking the name Donna. Download Paramore to listen to it.

3. Good Charlotte - Young and the Hopeless

A band from Maryland Good Charlotte with Paul Thomas blasted into the top 10 of the popular music album chart. It is filled with history of high school and difficult parents. The big hit track is “The Anthem.”

4. Green Day - American Idiot

After declining from their mid-90's fleeting surge of popularity, Green Day faded from live performances to put together punk rock's first opera. Although the popular punk band was anxious about their fan's reaction to Jesus of Suburbia, it to be an American punk rock classic topping the album chart and winning an award for Best Punk Album of 2004.

5. The Lemonheads - Ceiling Fan in My Spoon

The Lemonheads' lead singer Evan Dando is the only punk performer to be known as a real teen dream-boy. By the way the rock band recorded some outstanding songs, too, including “Ceiling Fan in My Spoon”, “Download Pressure” and “Rest Assured” on this album.

6. The Offspring - Not the One

Offspring a highly influential American rock bandfrom California were one of the devoted punk renascence bands from the 90's. Rather often their music bordered on psychedelic rock and metal, but their most popular music is pure punk. “Come Out and Play (Acoustic Version)” and “Not the One” are far beyond what is usual on this CD.

7. Rancid - The 11th Hour

Rancid a lot like late 1970 classic punk as the Clash. They also use the of rock punk in much of their music.

8. Simple Plan - Still Not Getting Any…

This French Canadian group emerged in the public eye in October with their studio album When I'm With You. This 2nd album is much better and covers the hit single “Meet You There.”

9. Sum 41 - All Killer No Filler

The single “Fat Lip” helped chuck this studio album into the top 10. Sum 41 implant intelligent sense of humor into many of their hits. Download When It Rains to get an impression of what we are talking about.

10. Weezer - Surf Wax America (Blue Album)

Though they are esteemed as grandfathers of the “emo” compositions, Weezer's music is also pure pop punk in style. “My Name Is Jonas” was their first hit and then a clip putting the rock band in a Happy Days episode stimulated to make the single even more popular.
